Increases in population, especially in urban areas, have been stressing the existing infrastructure and engineered systems for many years and have created a demand for innovative strategies and technologies that improve the performance and efficiency of the built and expanding infrastructure. This growth has created an opportunity for civil engineers to tap on their creative genius for making the built environment more survivable against man made and environmental effects with limited amount of funding. My research goal is to develop innovative, resilient and economical structural systems that can be used in the construction, replacement and rehabilitation of buildings, bridges and other structures. My current research projects are focused on the utilization of unconventional materials to create sustainable and resilient structural systems and components and they are related to bridges as well as building structures.
